Position Summary:

The Assistant Football Coach will assist the head coach in organization, planning, and directing all aspects of our Division I football program. The assistant coach will primarily instruct, train and coach the quarterback’s skills required along with possible coordinating responsibilities (dependent upon experience).

This coach will instruct student-athletes for purposes of academic, social development, compliance requirements, and safety and health considerations; will recruit quality student-athletes for the program, will assist with program leadership duties, including directing the coaching staff on the offensive line, team composition, competition strategies, and peak performance; will engage in team operations, including travel and video analysis of play execution and game strategy; and will perform additional duties related to coaching (e.g., compliance education, budget management, housing coordinator, serve as Alumni relations liaison and other duties as assigned by the head coach).

UD Athletics employees are expected to comply with all laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University, the Atlantic 10 Conference, and the Pioneer Football League. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate expertise in all aspects of coaching student-athletes and a commitment to the highest ideals of leadership, sportsmanship, and academics.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree,
Experience playing or coaching the quarterback position at the collegiate level,
Excellent written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Experience with collegiate football recruiting, Experienced in working collegiate sports camps,
Must be able to demonstrate excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Valid state-issued driver’s license maintains a low-risk driving record, and be able to be insured by the university.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

A federal court on December 7, 2022, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide. With this development, the University will pause any enforcement action against employees who have not complied with the requirement to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8, 2022, or to have requested an exemption to maintain their employment status.

The University will continue to monitor the state of the pandemic on campus and in the community as well as developments in federal and state requirements, and also will continue to regularly consult with public health officials and our medical panel. CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Coach, Football assists the Head Coach in directing the management and administration of the University’s Division I intercollegiate football program. Responsibilities typically include some or all of the following: provide leadership in program priorities and initiatives; administer program budget; develop and implement short and long-term goals for the program; and establish multi-year recruiting plan.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Assisting in formulating coaching decisions such as development and implementation of the systems and strategies used on the field, the conduct of practice and conditioning/training, selection of Team members, deployment of players, and all other matters relating to the practice for and play of games, as well as the performance of all other duties customarily associated of a head coach of a major Division I intercollegiate sports program.

Assist with the sports program’s recruiting activities which may include prospect student-athlete (PSA) evaluation; scouting; developing scouting reports; conducting video analysis; tracking PSA correspondence; distribution of scholarships; monitoring admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes; the planning and executing campus visits; managing recruiting databases. Assists in developing and administering sport team rules including taking disciplinary action for violations of the University’s Student-Athlete Code of Conduct.

Monitors study hall, grade reports, class attendance, appearance, and general standard of behavior of the team’s student-athletes. Implements appropriate risk management strategies at all times; engages in regular consultation with athletic training and other department sports medicine personnel to maximize the safety and wellness of student-athletes; and demonstrates concern for the overall welfare of students at all times.

Monitors and encourages the regular progress toward an academic degree of those student-athletes who are on the Team, and making reasonable and good faith efforts, in cooperation with the University’s faculty, administration, and the academic support unit for student-athletes, to meet all student-athletes academic requirements.

Promotes an atmosphere of compliance with other coaches and actively supervising student-athletes and other individuals so as to maintain strict compliance with, the constitutions, bylaws, rules, and regulations of the NCAA, the Atlantic Coast Conference, and any other governing body, league, or conference of which the University may be subject to.

Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Posting Text Dakota State University seeks a hard-working, energetic, knowledgeable individual to serve as a part-time, non-benefit eligible, Assistant Football Coach.

This 12-month coaching position will work to assist the Head Football Coach of the football program, as well as duties assigned by the Athletic Director. Other responsibilities will include recruiting, fundraising, compliance, student retention, and student study efforts.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Knowledge of the evaluation and assessment of student athlete skills and abilities.
  • Ability to travel as required by the position.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

This individual supervises assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and student employees when applicable to their staff structure. This individual will be responsible for conducting their program in accordance with all University System of Maryland, Frostburg State University, NCAA, and Conference Affiliate policies, and procedures.

Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree. At least 3-5 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level or above. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Proven ability to recruit student-athletes.
