Updated 2025 | Nigeria Education News

Nigerian students preparing for graduation, final clearance, or NYSC mobilisation are now required by many institutions to obtain a NERD Clearance Slip as part of academic verification.

The National Educational Research Database (NERD) has made the process fully online, allowing students to complete registration, upload their final-year project, and generate a clearance slip from anywhere in Nigeria.

This guide explains everything you need to know about NERD clearance, including requirements, registration steps, project upload, approval process, and how to download your clearance slip without delays.

What Is the NERD Clearance Slip?

The NERD Clearance Slip is an official document generated after a student successfully completes verification on the National Educational Research Database (NERD) platform.

You receive the slip after:

  • Registering on the NERD portal
  • Uploading your final-year project or thesis
  • Completing identity verification (KYC)
  • Passing NERD review and approval

Once approved, the slip displays your NERD Document Number (NDN), which may be required for:

  • University or polytechnic clearance
  • NYSC mobilisation
  • Academic verification and accreditation
  • Institutional record validation

Requirements for NERD Clearance Registration

Before starting your application, ensure you have the following documents ready:

  • Valid email address
  • Passport photograph (JPG/JPEG/PNG – max 300KB)
  • Government-issued ID (NIN slip, Voter’s Card, Driver’s License, or International Passport)
  • Student Status Attestation Letter or Certificate (PDF – max 300KB)
  • Signed project certification page
  • Complete final-year project or thesis

Having these ready will prevent upload errors and approval delays.

Step 1: Register on the NERD Portal

Visit the official onboarding portal: via https://ned.gov.ng/onboarding

What to Do:

  • Create an account using an active email address
  • Verify your email (check inbox or spam folder)

Important: Use an email address you can access easily. All updates and confirmations are sent there.

Step 2: Enter Personal and Academic Details

After login:

  • Select Role → Student
  • Carefully fill in your academic information:
  • Institution name
  • Faculty
  • Department
  • Programme

Important Tip:

Do not type randomly. Use keywords to select official names (e.g., type Ibadan to locate University of Ibadan).
If your department or faculty is missing, contact your institution’s NERD Focal Officer.

Step 3: Complete KYC (Identity Verification)

Upload the following documents:

  • Passport photograph
  • Government-approved ID
  • Student status attestation letter or certificate
  • Ensure all uploads meet size and format requirements to avoid rejection.

Step 4: Upload Your Project or Thesis on NERD

Log in via: https://ned.gov.ng/login

Upload Process:

  • Select Submission Type
  • Click Upload → Thesis / Project / Dissertation
  • Enter Project Title
  • Use the exact title approved by your institution
  • Add Project Title
  • Re-enter the project title
  • Write Project Description
  • Provide a brief summary of your research

Step 5: Upload Project Certification Page

Upload only one page — the signed certification page.

It must include:

  • Your name
  • Supervisor’s name
  • Head of Department (HOD)
  • Institution stamp or signature

Tips: Uploading the wrong page may delay approval.

Step 6: Upload Project Content or PDF

You can choose either option:

Option A: Copy and Paste Chapters

Fill the provided sections:

  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Literature Review
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Recommendations
  • References

Option B: Upload PDF (Optional)

Maximum size: 600KB

If all text fields are completed correctly, NERD can auto-generate your PDF

Step 7: Upload Figures and Images

Upload at least one figure

Maximum: 10 figures

Each image must not exceed 200KB

Tables and charts can be converted to images before upload.

Step 8: Submit Your Project

Click Submit Project.

A confirmation message will appear once submission is successful.

Note: Your project will now undergo review.

Step 9: Generate Your NERD Clearance Slip

Once approved:

  • Log in to your dashboard
  • Click “Process NERD Clearance”
  • Your NERD Clearance Slip and NDN will be displayed
  • Download, save, or print the slip for official use.

Common Mistakes Students Should Avoid

  • Uploading unsigned certification pages
  • Selecting the wrong institution or department
  • Exceeding file size limits
  • Leaving required text sections empty

Avoiding these errors speeds up approval.
